Ultra-luxury city cars. I want something the size of an A-Class or an A3, but with the interior the luxury level of an S-Class.
Because, if you’re in a big city, a big full size luxobarge would be hard to manoeuvre around. Think of it like those really fancy penthouses billionaires buy, it’s more compact and makes more sense than a mansion in an urban setting, but it has just the same level of luxury.
Of course, nobody, including me, on this site would be able to afford one. But I’m sure there’s some rich folks out there who would be interested.

I mean, the Cygnet was basically an iQ in a hat with some nice leather. I mean a proper, purpose built, luxury supermini.

The top gear site is confused as to what a supermini is.

Well, that’s because the Cygnet costs an absurd amount of money. There was literally no reason to buy one unless you already owned an AM and really really wanted a city car with an AM badge.

I know of one company! Mercedes-Benz offers a “Brabus Tailor Made” program for smarts. And much like the big S-Class, they are willing to build it any way you want. Carbon fibre? Sure. Wood grain? Why not? Want some engine tuning? Of course!
Of course, the final bill for a “Tailor Made” smart can greatly exceed $40k...so yeah.

Yeah but why? I mean if You have money your not going to want to be seen in a tiny car anyway. Imagine a business man pulling up for a meeting in a tiny little hatchback. He’d get laughed at by his peers for driving such a silly looking automobile. 50% of a small car’s purpose is to be cheaper, and more efficient. So making it more expensive and heavier kinda defeats the purpose. And yeah It’ll be easier to navigate in a city, but I don’t think Americans will car enough to buy a car that don’t LOOK the part, for the successful image they war trying to desperately to portray.

This only doesn’t exist because ‘Muricans believe small cars are for the poor.
I know Smart (Benz) did something similar for a while, including for its roadster, but I wouldn’t daily drive any of those.

That wa sky first thought however it's incorrect. It was purpose built. This car was like putting makeup on an already overpriced pig and making it an even more overpriced pig. One cannot slap leather on a Toyota and call it an Aston.

Nope, but you can slap two Duratecs together and call it an Aston V12!

But doesn’t this segment already exist in Europe, and Asian markets. I’m sure some one makes a high end Kei car in Japan. Europe has the Audi A1 thats a tiny luxury car.

I’m not talking regular luxury, I mean bespoke luxury. Small premium and luxury cars do exist in North America, Mercedes sells the B-Class in Canada, there’s the A3, the CLA, GLA, 2-Series, Volvo is bringing over the V40. I mean something that’s as luxurious as an S-Class, but the size of a small hatchback.

If I were in the market for small city-use luxury it would probably be the (now discontinued) Cadillac ELR. Yes, I know it’s a Volt in fancy khakis. Yes, I am on record as thinking the modern Cadillac stylign is overblown. The ELR, however, is overblown
enough.

The ELR is a very good looking car in person. I’ve seen one in person before, and it looks a lot better than in pictures.

Lancia got you covered, the Ypsilon is essentially a small Fiat with an unusually high level of luxury for the class and price and many shades of Alcantara. Has been for three decades.

I’m kind of saying I get where that comes from - I don’t doubt it looks pretty good in person. It keeps enough of the awkward angles and weird proportions you’d typically see on a concept rather than trying to tape all the “Cadillac” sharp edges onto a normal car shape, so while it looks
silly,
that’s not the same thing as looking
bad.
Kind of like how the Pacer is a good looking car if you don’t think about it as a “car”, just a styled object.

You can spec smaller cars quite nicely, but the oppulance of their barge-like brethren isn’t seen that often. Very few people care that much about substance yet zero about image.
Ultra-luxury city cars. I want something the size of an A-Class or an A3
The A-Class and A3 are compacts, so two segments larger than city cars. Having said that, it’s easy to spec an Audi A
1
(Ford Fiesta size) so high it’s more expensive than a base Audi A6.
